Cool videos, Chris!
We enjoyed an amazing carve-out in the weather for our event. Sunny and calm in the morning turning to cloudy and threatening late afternoon.
Thanks to Kevin for showing up early and getting the kettle rinsed out and ready for wort.
Samples of last fall’s sticke alt from Nick and Damian were delicious. That was a damn good beer and members agreed it should go on a short list for re-brewing. The 12% eisbier I made from it in January was spectacular. Sadly, none survived for the meet yesterday. Sorry.
Chris shared some deep-stash barley wine (club brew?) that had aged well.
New Glarus Blueberry Chocolate Stout was a standout commercial offering from Damian.
I opened a Weihanstephan Wheat Wine I picked up at Beertopia the other day. Yum. Has me thinking I need to finally pull the trigger on brewing a wheat wine. If anyone has any experience doing one of those, please share.
While Chris McMahon’s smoked pork belly stole the show at the side table, Chris Masek’s red beans and rice did not disappoint, with big chunks of Stoysich andouille swimming in spicy beans. Corn chips and hot dip from Damian rounded out a broad assortment of snack mixes. No one went hungry.
Jim Waugh’s mods to the kettle burners worked flawlessly. It was nice to be able to feather the gas feed to the burners without feeling like you were risking your life. Everyone raised their glasses to toast Jim and his handiwork.
Quote/snafu of the day: “Where’s the crescent wrench? It was just here! WTF?!! What happened to the crescent wrench?!”
“Here it is!”, says Damian coming out of the porta potty.
As always the team pitched in with cleaning up and getting things tucked away before the rain came back. Big thanks to Damian for bringing propane and for scrubbing out the cannibal pot. She’s ready for Fall. What will we brew?
